New Year’s Eve has always been a very interesting night for me, not because anything particularly exciting happened, but more because on New Year’s I always seem to be on an emotional rollercoaster. I don’t really know why I’m mostly miserable on New Year’s but I have a feeling that it is because I’m afraid of time, of losing time. There’s something about the celebration of the new year that I don’t really understand. I mean I’m happy most of the night, up until the countdown, and then I’m absolutely miserable. I think that, within those 10 seconds before January 1st, I really realize that yet another year has gone by and the year to come will be just as fast as the last. This realization, I believe, scares me because time is just flying by and the more time that goes by, the less I am able to remember.

With that, I believe that with this blog I want to do something daily that will help me remember my year, whether it be a song that I listened to a lot that day, a video or movie that I particularly enjoyed, a poem or book that I found intriguing or a photograph that moved me. I will discuss these things and tell you why I chose each of them. Some days I will write something of my own, some days I’ll update you on the goings on in my life and some days I’ll just do whatever the hell I want to. Like the vlogbrothers, John and Hank, (www.youtube.com/vlogbrothers or www.brotherhood2.com) I will be taking weekends and holidays off unless I really want to post something and I’m just sitting around doing nothing anyway.

So I hope that this project will make for an interesting blog. I’m sure this has been done before (if it has let me know) but really I’m just doing this for me so yeah…so there.

Happy New Year to you all and I’ll see you with my first post in 2008!

Sooo I got my mark for my psyc exam back. I don’t really want to talk about how awful it is but let me say that I’ve never gotten a mark that low in my life. I barely, barely passed. I mean I know that university expectations are much higher but jasdfo;aewihfn. This sucks. Also, I know that I honestly couldn’t have done much better because this semester in psyc was strictly focused on science and things…and as you know I read books, I write essays…the structure of the brain is not really my thing.

In high school, I’d be crying about this mark. Now I’m not so concerned because next semester is the social science aspect and I’m hoping *crosses fingers* that I’ll do better on that sort of stuff.

So I’m leaving…it’s Christmas and i’m not thinking about school.

PEACE.

Sooo I’m pretty bored right now. Currently I am sitting at home in my living room, staring at the computer screen with very dilated pupils. I was at the eye doctor this morning to get an update on my perscription so I can get new glasses (yay!). However those eye drops are killer and my pupils are still MASSIVE and I have a huge headache so staring at a computer screen is probably not the wisest thing to be doing right now.

After my eye appointment I went to Indigo (a chain bookstore in Canada) and I spent hours looking for books to read. I came up with a pretty chunky list, which is great because next summer I’m going to do nothing but work (hopefully in a bookstore) and read. During the school year I don’t really have much time to read anything other than what I have to read for school so I’ve made it my goal to read at least 20 books next summer. I’m actually so excited for this task because I absolutely adore reading and I know that it improve my writing as well. Here’s my current book list for next summer:

  1. Everything is Illuminated – Jonathan Safran Foer
  2. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close – Jonathan Safran Foer
  3. Middlesex – Jeffrey Eugenides
  4. An Arsonist’s Guide to Writers’ Homes in New England – Brock Clarke
  5. Gods Behaving Badly – Marie Phillips
  6. The History of Love – Nicole Krauss
  7. Snow – Orhan Pamuk
  8. Goodbye Lemon – Adam Davies
  9. If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things – Jon Mcgregor
  10. The Book of Lost Things – John Connolly
  11. Lullabies for Little Criminals – Heather O’Neill
  12. Absurdistan – Gary Shteyngart
  13. Happiness – Will Ferguson
  14. The Girls – Lori Lansens
  15. The Other Boleyn Girl – Phillipa Gregory
  16. The Kite Runner – Khaled Hosseini
  17. Seeing – Jose Saramego (I’m reading Blindness right now, however I forgot to bring it home from school)
  18. My Sister’s Keeper – Jodi Picoult
  19. The Red Tent – Anita Diamant
  20. The Birth of Venus – Sarah Dunan
  21. Memoirs of a Geisha – Arthur Golden
  22. Catcher in the Rye – J.D. Salinger
  23. 1984 – George Orwell
  24. Animal Farm – George Orwell
  25. Brave New World – Aldous Huxley

I know…many of you are probably wondering how I’m an english major if I haven’t read those last five books…I’m telling you that I find it hard to find time to read and that is why I am going to start making time. I also think that I am going to try to find some of these books at a library because I clearly don’t have money to buy them all (hopefully I’ll get some for christmas).

CHRISTMAS IS IN 4 DAYS! I’m so excited for christmas OH MY GOD. On Saturday I’m having a small get together with some friends from high school and I am looking forward to it. We’re going to get dressed up and eat good food and drink lots and it’s going to be pretty fun! Speaking of which, I really need to sort out what I’m going to cook on Saturday seeing as though it is only a day and a half away.

Anyway, I must go sort things out. I will talk to you later and if you have any book suggestions let me know!

So I’m blogging for really the first time, at least in a while. A long time ago I had a livejournal and eventually I stopped using it and now, as I am home from university for Christmas holidays an have lots of time on my hands, I’ve decided to start one up again. I miss writing for no reason…I’m so tired of writing only essays because I have no time for anything else so on here I’ll be writing about myself, other issuses, and maybe I’ll post some of my writing.

Anywho, I must go shower. I have to go downtown soon to shop for my mom for christmas!

When I get back I think I’ll do a “questions” blog…so I’ll just answer some random questions that I come up with (maybe I’ll answer some from Brotherhood 2.0 question Tuesdays [Nerdfighters FTW!])

Well, peace out!
