So I’m going to start off by telling you how busy I’ve been.

This week has been insanely hectic because,

a) I had my regular skating

b) I had an english essay due today (that I didn’t really start writing until monday night)

c) I had a film project due today (that we didn’t start doing until tuesday night and I had SOOO many issues with) and…

d) I had my regular classes to attend which means….

e) I was not able to post on my blog since…monday *shame*

So yes…that it the story of my life this week. It was pretty shitty (other than the WANNA BE A GAEL? meeting, which very, very high on the awesome meter. You know what else is on the awesome meter? This weekend. Despite the fact that I’ll occasionally be working on my religions essay (on feminism in religion…blehh) it’s going to be SO AWESOME because,

a) we have a skating fundraiser tomorrow night…I have no  ID to go to the bar after the pre-drink but it will still be fun times.

b) I’m going home on Sunday.

c) because I’m going to the SPICE GIRLS CONCERT in TORONTO on MONDAY NIGHT!!! fsafbasjlkfhaowjbv;aosdkhnohdnf;aosfhn;!

d) i’m going with the love of my life, Caitlin and

e) she’s legal and we’re in the alchie permitted section and um…yeahh…it’s going to be awesome.

f) oh and I don’t have to go to any class on monday because…well…i’m in Toronto.

So yes…I know you’re jealous.

So if you’re wondering why I have posted a bunch of frosh week cheers and my school’s fight song (the oil thigh) in the tricolour, the answer is that I just got back from the “Wanna be a Gael” meeting. Basically this meeting was to introduce us Artsci ’11’s to the process of Gael hiring. Gaels are what Artsci frosh leaders are called during frosh week. Gaels are the most spirited second years at the school and are probably the most well-respected students on campus. Their job is to make the first week at Queen’s for the frosh the most comfortable and the most fun that it can possibly be. Gaels are generally students who LOVE frosh week and who LOVE Queen’s and who LOVE to love. Being a Gael is pretty much the best job ever because a) you get to relive frosh week all over again, b) you get to spend TONS of time with other people who love frosh week as much as you do and c) you get to represent Queen’s and introduce this amazing school and all of it’s traditions to a younger generation of Queen’s students and have SO MUCH FUN while doing it. I will never, ever forget my frosh week with all of the peat moss and shaving cream, the paint fights and bottle collecting on Shinerama day in the park and, of course, being tammed in and officially becoming a student at Queen’s University. Because frosh week was a week that I will never forget,  as a Gael I want to ensure that Artsci 2012 will also have the time of their life during frosh week. I want them to give’r during Frosh Olympics; I want them to try their hardest to lose their voice in cheer offs while screaming “we’ve got more! we’ve got more!”; I want them to pelvic thrust like they have never thrust before and finally, I want them to come out 4 and a half months later to their “Wanna be a Gael” meeting and cheer like frosh week was only yesterday.

We’ve got frosh! Yeah! Yeah!

We’ve got frosh! Yeah! Yeah!

We’ve got cool frosh totally lost!

Cheer cheer cheer cheer cheer cheer cheer!

We’ve got Gaels! Yeah! Yeah!

We’ve got Gaels! Yeah! Yeah!

We’ve got great Gaels shakin’ their tails!

Cheer cheer cheer cheer cheer cheer cheer!

We’ve got O.C.’s! Yeah! Yeah!

Cheer cheer cheer cheer cheer cheer cheer!

I think this whole post will probably turn into my application, but what the heck. I might as well write what I feel right?

Cha Gheil!

first you become a part of it, then it becomes a part of you…

The second I started skating I instantly fell in love with the sport. When I was younger I skated just because it was something to do. Every kid growing up had their “thing”; it could soccer, ballet, jazz, tap, gymnastics, piano, violin or hockey, but mine was figure skating. Everyone knew me as the figure skater, in my 5th grade yearbook I was voted “most likely to become a champion figure skater” and when I couldn’t go somewhere with my friends, they knew the excuse off by heart: “sorry I can’t, I have figure skating”.

As I got older, practice became a little less pleasurable simply because there were so many other things that I could’ve been doing, but never did I skip practice to do those things. If I ever complained about a 6 a.m. practice my friends would ask “why do you do it?” or say, “then quit”. To the latter, I would say “I can’t quit”, and to the former, well I’d often ponder on that thought. Why did I do it? Why did I spend countless weekdays and weekends in skating rinks? Why did I get up for 6 a.m. synchro practices? Why was I willing to miss everything I did because of skating?

Over the past year I think I’ve finally realized why I dedicate so much to this sport. When I was faced with the possibility of not skating again this year I think that I realized how truly important figure skating is to me. Like the quote at the beginning of this post says, it becomes a part of you. Figure skating is part of what defines me as a person. Who would I be if I didn’t figure skate? What would my “most likely to…” be in my 5th grade yearbook? How would the world be different than the one we know if I had attended the countless parties that I missed because of a competition?

I’m sure many of you can relate to my ramblings. We are who we are because of the things we do and the choices we make. So just keep doing your thing because it might turn out to be way more important than you think.

p.s. I’ll leave you with some of my favourite programs of all time..

I’m an idiot.

I missed yesterday. *headdesk* *headdesk* *headdesk*

I was really super distracted because,

a) I had class all day

b) I had skating until 8:30 last night

c) after skating me and Lara met up with our other housemates to talk about a nice house that Emily and Lindsey saw

d) I went to Starbucks with Nicole and Alison

e) I stayed up chatting when I really should’ve been in bed and

f) well…I didn’t go on the computer AT ALL last night from about 5 onwards. (I know, SHOCKING!)

So those aren’t really good excuses but I’m sorry (more to myself because I know no one reads this anyway) and ON WITH THE PROJECT!

So my housing stuff is going well. Lindsey and Emily saw a nice house last night but it’s technically not listed yet so we’re going to keep looking for sure. I’m just so glad that everything has worked out. I feel like it’s going to be really good next year. The girls are (obviously) really, really nice and we all get along (so far). There’s a really good balance in the house too because Emily and I are both in arts and Lara and Lindsey are both in lifesci so we’ll be able to be hardcore school and also hardcore party times (although obviosuly not too often). I just really, really want to find a place and sign a lease so we can start talking about actually living there. I’m so excited.

On a completely different note – I’m obsessed with Tetris. I don’t know why but it’s just so fun. However I didn’t know until a couple days ago that the point of the game is to get “Tetris”, which means that you clear four rows at once and you get over 1000 points. It’s insane.

Off to play more tetris/sleep!
