Now I just need to get to new york to see this cast…my life will not be complete otherwise.

My life will, in fact, be complete.

A few weeks ago my parents surprised me by saying the words I have been wanting to hear all summer:

We’re going to New York City.

The trip is happening this Thanksgiving weekend – a week after my birthday. The adventure will commence on Friday morning when my parents arrive in Kingston to pick up myself and my wonderful friend Ally. She’s my guest on our weekend in NYC because she’s a very good friend of mine and this trip and seeing Hair will be equally as important to her as it will to me, as she is one of the people I have been obsessing with all summer. Seriously, when we’d email at work, for at least two months our emails opened with a different quote from the soundtrack. I’m sure that if you piece together the random quotes we shared you could have the whole soundtrack. Hahah. Once we ran out of Hair quotes we moved onto Harry Potter quotes, and for at least a month we played “Amorentia, Imperius, Avada Kedavra” in each of our emails. Two peas, I tell you.

Anyway, back to the trip. We’re driving to New York City on Friday, then we’ll check into our hotel and go out on the town for dinner and everything. Saturday we will do some touristy things, walk through Central Park, 5th avenue, Times Square Magnolia bakery, FAO Schwarz, Tiffany’s etc etc. Saturday night is when Ally and I are going to see Hair, which will be sooo amazing.  After the show we will obviously go to the stage door and meet our idols (Gavin Creel, Allison Case, Caissie Levy, Kacie Sheik, Andrew Kober, Bryce Ryness, Will Swenson and the list goes on). I’m sure that we will be too excited to even think, let alone go to bed, so we’ll be out on the town until it’s socially unacceptable. Sunday we will be extending our stay as long as possible then we’ll be heading back to Kingston where my parents will be staying until they head back to toronto on the holiday monday.

Ally, my parents and I have been talking about the trip for about a month but even still it seems entirely surreal – like a dream. I’ve wanted to see the show since May and talked about having to go to NY, but never did I think I’d actually get there.

My first Broadway show…wow.

that my heart lies in london?

I’m not sure why, but today I have been craving all things british.

I’ve been looking a grad schools in the UK that have the program I’m looking into, I’ve been browsing Topshop like it’s my job, I’ve been drinking english breakfast tea all day and craving some Cadbury Fingers and/or Hobnobs and/or Lemon Dutchys and finally I’ve resorted to looking up flights.

I’m craving London.

Now, my love of London is something, like my love of Harry Potter, or Christmas, or tea, that never goes away. On occasion, however, this love turns into a slight obsession and the prospect of being in London (or England in general, I mean if I were merely a train ride away I wouldn’t complain) is all I can really think about.

I think these thoughts started to surface yesterday in my Restoration and 18th Century Literature course. We were discussing Country House poetry and discussing the 18th century country house and its role in british culture. This got me thinking of Pride and Prejudice, which then got me thinking about this house I visited while in England nearly four years ago (we left for England on March 11th! It feels like only yesterday…). The house is called Stourhead and you can check it out here. I remember seeing peacocks on the grounds (actually) and being in complete awe of this wonderful family home. This house reminded me of Pride and Prejudice because part of the 2005 movie with Keira Knightly was filmed there. So since that lecture (it was the only one this entire semester in that course that I have taken more than a page of notes) I have been on an England high and I can’t seem to come down off my cloud.

I’m also really excited because two Christmases from now I’ll be in England, specifically in St. Agnes, Cornwall for the majority of the trip. We’re staying in the same house that we did back in 2005 and we’ll be there upon our arrival and through to probably the 27th, when we’ll head up to Wales to stay with more family up there for New Years and finally, we’re spending a few days in London at the end of our trip before we fly back home because I would not be a happy peep if we did not.

Although I’m super pumped for that trip, it’s so freaking far away. I would give anything to take a week off in May or something just to fly over there for a week or something and trek around England/Scotland. All I want is a week. All I want is London.

I loveeee home.

It smells nice and looks pretty and yeah…

I’m in like with home.

AND it’s snowing.

I’m currently listening to the new mugglecast and I cannot believe that they have not picked up on the Laura Mallory connection from Dumby’s commentary on FoFF. But really, I’m even more proud because Laura (the mugglecaster) just mentioned the Three Brothers tale and its similarities to The Pardoner’s Tale from Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer. I noticed that connection when I read it last year in English 110 and everyone thought I was insane. But there’s definitely evidence to say that Three Brothers was loosely based on the Pardoner’s Tale. Laura, you get a pat on the back.

Today is pretty much gorgeous outside, but it’s kinda ruined by this :

It’s incredibly noisy, although it’s a very interesting house to see inside of. I’m kinda, really glad it’s being torn down. The hilarious part is that the guy who lived there before sold it on the condition that they wouldn’t tear it down. Yeah. Right. That house was a shit hole.

Alright, I must go. Caitlin and I are going to rendezvous. Ta.

Oh here’s another lame picture of me for good measure. I like my outfit today.

Oh, hey there.

So today has been a pretty good day. I even wrote an exam today and it’s still great! Why? Well, because it was my ONE AND ONLY exam before holidays, therefore, I am technically, right now, on holidays.

My holidays have so far consisted of reading Beedle the Bard, eating lunch, watching youtube videos and taking vain pictures of myself with my webcam:

Beedle was fanstastic. It was a Harry Potter fix without much Potter, but it was still so fulfilling and SO interesting. i loved the part following the Fountain of Fair Fortune where Dumbledore mentions how Lucius Malfoy wanted to have that book taken out of the library at Hogwarts because he didn’t want wizard-muggle unions to be promoted in the school where his son went and his persistence on the matter. I found it so hilarious because all I could think about was Laura Mallory and her persistence when it came to getting Harry Potter out of the schools because they were “immoral” and against the bible and stuff. I really, really, think that Dumbledore’s comments on the subject was Jo alluding to her. I really want it to be true.

All of the other stories in Beedle were incredible. I loved every single one of them and I swear to god I’m going to read them to my children instead of Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel because, well, they are just so magical and fantastic. I also love love loved how Jo cross-referenced Fantastic Beasts and other stories because it just made the stories and commentary seem so real.

Anywho. I’m really, really excited to go home on Sunday and to start really preparing for christmas. I desperately need to start christmas shopping because i have no idea what I’m going to get anyone. I’m so unprepared this year. Plus, I also have to start planning my christmas party and everything. It’s going to be so hectic but so fun.

I want Starbucks, plus, I want to make these delicious cranberry squares. Maybe I’ll see if the recipe’s online and make them. Hmm.

So I’m blogging for really the first time, at least in a while. A long time ago I had a livejournal and eventually I stopped using it and now, as I am home from university for Christmas holidays an have lots of time on my hands, I’ve decided to start one up again. I miss writing for no reason…I’m so tired of writing only essays because I have no time for anything else so on here I’ll be writing about myself, other issuses, and maybe I’ll post some of my writing.

Anywho, I must go shower. I have to go downtown soon to shop for my mom for christmas!

When I get back I think I’ll do a “questions” blog…so I’ll just answer some random questions that I come up with (maybe I’ll answer some from Brotherhood 2.0 question Tuesdays [Nerdfighters FTW!])

Well, peace out!
